Description

What is the Lean LaunchPad for Applied Tech Commercialization?

Lean Launchpad for Applied Tech Commercialization is a certificate program for NYU PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty. The program is a lab, not a “book” class - to give participants real world experience in how to turn an idea or invention into a business. The program is offered for six weeks starting on January 11, 2017 until February 16th, 2017. Class will take place on Thursdays from 2:30pm-6:00pm in the Leslie eLab (16 Washington Pl). You'll get your hands dirty talking to users, customers, partners, and competitors, as you encounter the chaos and uncertainty of how a startup actually works. It is a highly intensive, experiential class comprised of participant presentations, customer interviews, and feedback from startup experts. Each day will be a new adventure outside the classroom as you test each part of your business model and then share your hard-earned knowledge with the rest of the class.

Who is this class for?

All current NYU PhD students/candidates, postdoctoral fellows and faculty.

What should you expect?

To dedicate at least one full day per week (3.5 hours in the classroom, and 4-8 hours outside of the classroom doing customer discovery and preparing for the next in class session) over six immersive weeks. You will spend at least 3-4 hours each week conducting primary customer research/interviews, guided by best practices in technology commercialization taught by the leaders of the NYU Entrepreneurial Institute, with support from leading entrepreneurs and venture investors in NYC.

This course provides real world, hands-on learning on what it’s like to actually start a technology venture. This class is not about how to write a business plan. This is a practical class – essentially a lab, not a theory or “book” class. Our goal, within the constraints of a classroom and a limited amount of time, is to create an entrepreneurial experience for you with all of the pressures and demands of the real world in an early stage startup.
