Biography

Robert DiYanni is an adjunct professor of humanities at three NYU schools—CAS, SPS, and Stern—and an instructional consultant at the Center for Faculty Advancement. He earned a BA in English from Rutgers (1968) and a PH.D. in English from the CUNY Graduate Center (1976). His teaching at NYU includes courses in literature and humanities, critical thinking, and business and society.

His pedagogical work includes conducting workshops and consultations for NYU faculty and for faculty from the NYU led consortium, the Faculty Resource Network. Before coming to NYU, Dr. DiYanni taught at Queens College, CUNY, at Pace University, and as a visiting professor at Harvard. He also served as Director of International Services at the College Board and as Director of Aesthetic Education for the Scarsdale, NY public school system.

Professor DiYanni has conducted workshops in twenty countries on teaching and learning, writing and literature, and on critical and creative thinking. With Anton Borst, he co-authored The Craft of College Teaching: A Practical Guide, Princeton UP (2020). And he co-edited with Borst a two-volume work: Critical Reading Across the Curriculum, Wiley-Blackwell (2017/2020).

Dr. DiYanni has also published a pair of books on critical and creative thinking: a textbook with Pearson (2015) and a book for teachers with Wiley-Blackwell (2016).
